Removing and Disposing of Ticks
There are special tick removal tools available, though you can also remove ticks carefully with your fingers. Most importantly: the entire tick must be removed! If you’re unsure or uncomfortable, contact a veterinarian for assistance.
Do not dispose of ticks in the toilet, sink, or shower – they survive in water! Instead, wrap them in a tissue and crush them with a glass, or dispose of them in the regular household waste.
How Can I Protect My Dog from Ticks?
There are various options to protect your dog from tick bites – both chemical and natural:
Chemical tick preventatives:
-
Spot-on treatments
-
Tick collars
-
Tick sprays
-
Tablets
Natural alternatives:
-
Anti-tick collars made from natural materials
-
Coconut oil
-
Special essential oil blends
-
Black seed oil
While chemical options are effective, they can cause side effects. Natural alternatives are often better tolerated and a healthier long-term solution.
My Personal Recommendation: REICO Tick Protection
I’ve had excellent experiences with the natural tick protection from REICO VITALSYSTEME.
My 13-year-old dog has been largely tick-free for over 10 years thanks to REICO. My little Pomeranian, Sunny, is also optimally protected with REICO’s solution.
Application:
The special oil is applied for three weeks to the base of both ears and the neck area. After this stabilizing phase, the oil is applied once or twice a week.
In addition, I give both of my dogs a small amount of black seed oil in their food once a week.
